The challenge

A national consumer mobile application brings together user experience, backend services, data, and production operations. Mobile delivery has to be supported by an architecture that makes those pieces work together.

My role

I served as technical lead for the Planet Fitness national iOS and Android application rebuild. My responsibilities included architecture and development across the application and its supporting services.

Approach and architecture

The documented platform used an Azure and SQL Server-backed backend-for-frontend, or BFF, architecture.

A BFF is a service layer organized around the needs of a particular frontend. It gives a mobile application an interface suited to its workflows while keeping integrations and backend concerns behind that boundary.

That description explains the architectural pattern. It does not disclose the internal service design or the implementation of individual customer features.

Outcomes and impact

The rebuild delivered a national mobile platform. My professional background records an application serving more than two million users.

This summary includes only high-level responsibilities and platform details supported by my resume. It does not claim changes in engagement, revenue, performance, or uptime.
