Start with the actual problem.

A little about me
I like turning unclear, consequential problems into software people can use and teams can confidently own.
I’m Alexander Thomas. Alex is fine. I’m Chief Technology Officer at Applied Visions, where I work with organizations and engineering teams to build new products, modernize existing systems, and put AI to practical use.
I’ve spent nearly two decades moving between business strategy and technical execution. The work has ranged from consumer mobile applications and transit systems to multi-tenant SaaS platforms and enterprise AI.
The common thread is getting close enough to the problem to make good decisions, then staying involved long enough to see those decisions through.
My leadership work spans more than 40 people across engineering, QA, product, and design. I care about giving teams clear priorities, useful feedback, and enough context to make decisions without waiting for permission at every step.
I also stay hands-on. Architecture, code, delivery pipelines, and production behavior keep strategy honest. Understanding the details helps me ask better questions and recognize when a team needs a decision, a different approach, or simply room to work.
I build AI-powered products and help teams adopt AI-assisted development. That includes implementation, review, testing, and the less glamorous work of making a change sustainable across real projects.
I start with the work, not the model. Some problems need interpretation and judgment. Others need dependable rules. Either way, ownership, permissions, evaluation, observability, and cost belong in the design.
Technical direction, practical AI adoption, software modernization, and product delivery.
Solution architecture and technical delivery across custom products, enterprise AI, and modernization programs.
Connecting roadmap, architecture, customer commitments, and delivery for a multi-tenant SaaS platform.
Desktop, mobile, web, cloud, and integration systems, including transit and consumer applications.
Enterprise web applications, backend integrations, and data pipelines.
How I work
Understand how the business works before deciding what the technology should do. A useful question often beats a clever solution.
Give people the context and authority to do good work. Build systems that someone can understand, maintain, and operate.
Cost, security, delivery time, and maintainability all count. The best choice depends on the problem and the team that will live with it.
Let’s connect
